Blue Devils’ baseball drops pair to SUNY Oswego

CHAIN OF LAKES, Fla. — The Fredonia baseball team opened its SUNYAC season with 4-1 and 4-2 losses to No. 16 Oswego on Friday.

In Game 1, Steve Zaprowski had a pair of hits and the Blue Devils’ lone RBI. Starting pitcher Jake Harford scattered seven hits over six innings, allowing all four runs. Michael Williamson finished with a pair of scoreless innings.

Michael Prentice drove in a pair of runs in Game 2. He had a sacrifice fly in the first, and an RBI single in the third that gave the Devils a 2-1 lead at the time.

Oswego (10-4) took its first lead when Mike Dellicarri hit a two-run homer in the bottom of the third. They added an insurance run in the sixth.

Starting pitcher Michael Wilcox went five innings giving up five hits and three runs. Ben Atkinson tossed the final inning, allowing one run.

Ciro Frontale had three hits in the doubleheader.

The Devils fall to 8-6 on the season and wrap up their Florida Trip Saturday afternoon with a single game against Fredonia.


Bartlett fourth

in NCAA 1-meter

SHENANDOAH, Texas — Fredonia senior Meghan Bartlett finished fourth on Friday in women’s 1-meter springboard diving at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championship meet.

After taking first in the preliminary round, Bartlett finished with a score of 432.05. It completed a sweep of six All-American awards in her three-year career at Fredonia.

Wellesley’s Maura Sticco-Ivins won the event with a score of 475.40. Centre’s Sarah Hayhurst was second (445.75) and MIT’s Vivian Zhou was third (434.80).

Arron Carlson will compete in the men’s 3-meter springboard diving championship today.

Women’s Lacrosse

Blue Devils fall

to Gettysburg

The Fredonia women’s lacrosse team returned to campus Friday afternoon one day after losing to nationally ranked Gettysburg, 20-4, at Springfling in Englewood, Fla.

The Blue Devils ended their trip with a 1-2 Florida record, including back-to-back losses to No. 6 Franklin & Marshall on Wednesday and to the No. 3 ranked Bullets on Thursday.

Samantha Spiess was credited with out goal and one assist in Thursday’s loss. Jade Williams, Katie Miller and Audrey Yokopovich had one goal each.

The Blue Devils — 1-4 overall — return to action March 25 when they take on Montclair State at Brockport.
