Silver Creek offers spring wellness courses

SILVER CREEK — The Silver Creek Central School District is furthering its commitment to motivating a community of healthy learners of all ages with a variety of wellness classes open to the public.

The district warmly welcomes residents to check out its spring courses centered around health and wellness. Check the school website at www.silvercreekschools.org for a registration form, dates, times and more class offerings. Pre-registration is necessary for all classes and ensures that the classes will be held.

There are a plethora of classes available at Silver Creek this spring:

Aquacize is an easy on the joint exercise. Try aquacize and work out in the pool. Get into shape and enjoy the benefits of this joint-friendly exercise. Aquacize is a fast-paced, cardio-intense class that requires some stamina and coordination.

The session spans 12 classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays from April 18 to May 25 from 3:45 p.m. to 4:45 p.m. in the pool. The registration fee is $25.

Sit & Fit allows you to have fun while you stay fit. All ages can benefit from this light and easy class, which will include simple chair exercises and stretching. We will include the use of stretch bands and light weights if you choose to bring this equipment to class with you. Some meditation will conclude the class. Come and have fun while you stay fit on Tuesdays and Thursdays from May 2 to June 15 (no class June 1) from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in Crowe Commons at the Silver Creek Middle School. The instructor is Betty Bates and the registration fee is $35.

Mommy/Daddy & Me Swim is a parent-centric swim course. The course, geared toward parents with children ages birth through and including preschool, will help get adjusted to the waters for this spring. The importance of play as a way to learn are the highlights of this course. Parents will work with instructors and may choose to participate in any of the activities they and their child are ready to try. More than one parent may accompany the child. Older siblings are welcome to come as helpers are at no extra charge. Swim pants must be worn for any child not yet potty-trained. The course spans six classes held Wednesdays from May 3 to June 3 from 4 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the pool with certified swim instructor Jean Mahaney. Registration fee is $25 for one child; $40 for two children.

Meditation/Compassion class will assist you in focusing and relaxing. Rise beyond and glide through with instructor Sondra Holland, a meditation devotee who has spent a long time studying in the Orient, during five classes scheduled Mondays from May 8 to June 12 in Room 415 (Elementary Chorus Room) from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Registration fee is $35 and all ages, talents and abilities are welcome.

There will be a men’s basketball program at Silver Creek as well. Come out and get some exercise in a fun environment. Hone your skills and enjoy some friendly competition. Every person on their first visit must sign a waiver. Meet Mondays and Wednesdays now through June 14 from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. in the Elementary School gym. The instructor is Dwayne Haskins and the registration fee is $20 or $2 per session.

Walking the Halls course will be a walking program to promote health. There is no pre-registration for the walking program, which runs Mondays through Thursdays from 3:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. There will be a sign-up sheet in the High School lobby. Please carry photo identification when walking.

To register, call 951-8111 and leave a message with your name, number and the name of your course(s). The names of the courses are below. You will not receive a confirmation call. If the course is cancelled due to insufficient enrollment, you will be called. Those 65 and older get a 15% discount. Send in your money promptly, with a registration form (available at www.silvercreek.wnyric.org and your course fees. (Include separate checks for each person.)

You are not registered until your course fee is received. Money must be received before the class begins. Checks or money orders can be made out to: Silver Creek CS Community Ed.
