Bulldogs advance to semis with 7-1 win over Ellicottville

OBSERVER Staff Report

BROCTON — On Monday, the No. 3 Brocton Bulldogs picked up a 7-1 victory over the No. 6 Ellicottville Eagles Monday in the Section VI Class D baseball quarterfinals.

Brocton’s motto all season has been “win the inning,” and that’s exactly what they did for seven innings.

Ellicottville got on the board in the top of the first inning, but not to be outdone, the Bulldogs immedaitely answerred.

Johnethen Spicer got the inning going with a base hit, followed by a stolen base, and Brocton was off to the races. Garrett McFadden drove a double to right-center to bring home Spicer and McFadden later scored when Ronald Brown ground into a fielder’s choice.

That was the final inning the Eagles would cross the plate while the Bulldogs scored at least one run in all but one inning the rest of the way.

Ronald Brown picked up the complete game win, striking out 10, walking four and allowing just three hits.

“There’s not much you can’t say about (Ronald Brown),” Brocton coach Rob Fetyerick said. “He’s a ballplayer. He comes to play each day, whether it’s practice or a game. He’s calm, cool and collected; nothing bothers him. He had the batters guessing (Monday) and was dialed in for a 10th grader in his first playoff game.”

Derrick Burns and Gabe Rosas each went 2 for 3 with a run, a double and an RBI. McFadden doubled with an RBI and Brown added two RBIs to help his cause.

Next up for the Bulldogs is am away game at No. 2 Franklinville on Thursday in a Section VI Class D semifinal matchup.
