Feldman fourth in prelims

GENEVA, Ohio — Junior Brittany Feldman finished in fourth place in the preliminaries of the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Friday. Her time of :55.29 seconds in the 400-meter run is a new school record, and was just .02 seconds out of third place. The top eight finishers move on to tomorrow’s finals.

Wadeline Jonathas of U Mass Boston finished first in a time of :53.45, which ties the national record set back in 1988. Second place went to Jessie Reineck of Wisconsin Eua Claire in :55.18.

Chelsea Gilles of Greenville edged Feldman with a time of :55.27.

Feldman entered the meet ranked No. 12 in the 400 with her previous season-best time of :55.67 seconds coming May 12 at Allegheny College.

She finished 11th in last year’s NCAA’s in the same event. Her best national placement came in the 400 at the 2016 indoor meet, where she finished seventh and earned All-America distinction.

The women’s 400 finals are scheduled for a 1:10 p.m. start Saturday.

Also running for Fredonia in today’s finals is Kyle Collins. He will compete in the men’s 5,000. Start time is slated for 3:25 p.m.
