Lady Marauders end regular season on high note

Submitted Photo by Ron Szot Monica Pokoj (30) is congratulated by teammates after her home run during Sunday’s CCAA West 1 high school softball game.

The Dunkirk Lady Marauders (7-7, 6-6) took it to Falconer, winning, 16-0, in their regular season finale in CCAA West 1 softball.

Monica Pokoj finished the season off strong from the mound for Dunkirk.

She threw four out of the five innings and gave up zero hits, with no walks and five strikeouts.

Jessica Beehler, a call-up from jayvee, finished the fifth inning for Dunkirk. She completed the shutout and let up the only Falconer hit on the day courtesy of Olivia Adam.

Both Pokoj and Mackenzie Gugino jacked seperate three-run home runs for the Lady Marauders in the win.

“Overall, it was good,” said Dunkirk coach Michelle Poweski. “It was very nice to see everyone have a hit on the day and play well defensively. We’re peaking at the right time and playing our best softball.”

Dunkirk now awaits seeding for the playoffs. That meeting will be held Tuesday at 7 p.m.
