Mid-year scramble — The winning team of Richard Barkstrom, Chuck Jackson, Bob Wade and Don Hustead shot a 64 to take first place. Winners were determined by matching cards by handicap holes. In second was Paul Olkowski, Dave Lawton, Dennis Richards and Tuck Underwood with a 64 as well. In third was Dave Chall, Lynn Butcher, Bill Hart and Sam Allesi with a 65. Closest to the pins were awarded to Olkowski (No. 9), Brian Brown (No. 4), Jim Ferrick (No. 13) and Hustead (No. 15).

NCSA/Concord FC 2017 Fall Travel Soccer

The Fall travel soccer season begins at the end of August and runs through October. Teams of 10-15 players each will be in the following levels: Third/fourth graders and fourth, fifth and sixth graders — both co-ed. Practices will be held Tuesday and Thursday nights from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Holy Trinity with double-header games on Saturdays. Teams will be divided equally by ability. Fourth graders will be placed in the older division based on coach evaluation and roster size. $60 fee plus new uniform costs (about $70). Registrations accepted through July 28. DHS/CMHS FHS 8th Annual Alumni Golf Tournament

On Friday, Aug. 4, Shorewood Country Club will host the DHS/CMHS/FHS 8th Annual Alumni Golf Tournament.

The cost is $80 and includes: golf, a cart, box lunch, beverages and a dinner and dessert buffet. There will be a live WDOE broadcast of the event by radio sports announcer, Dan Palmer.

Before the shotgun scramble start at 9 a.m., there will be registration in the “grove” next to the pro-shop. Also, a group photo at 8:30 a.m., before honorary starters Dunkirk Mayor Willie Rosas and Jack Shubert begin the tourney at 9 a.m. Non-golfer dinner costs $25 per person, and there will be a cash bar at 2 p.m. as well as dinner at 3 p.m.

There will be trophies, door prizes and a silent auction following dinner. There is also a $500 hole-in-one competition sponsored by Mary Asher in memory of Tom Asher. The 2017 youth organization recipients will be the Dunkirk-Fredonia Little League and girls’ softball programs.

Gowanda’s Gateway Park to host sporting events on July 29-30

The new Gateway Park to Zoar Valley, located on Palmer Street in the village of Gowanda, will host two sporting events on Saturday, July 29 and Sunday, July 30.

A youth football camp sponsored by the Gowanda American Legion for athletes ages 7-12 will be held on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The registration fee is $5.

An old timers slow pitch softball game and reunion picnic will take place the following night, beginning at 6 p.m. Former players in the Gowanda Men’s Softball League (1974-1997) are encouraged to attend.
