Jamestown Mattress owner, Pullan, recognized at LECOM Health Challenge

CLYMER — Consistent quality, longevity and a commitment to small-town values are just some of the reasons Jamestown Mattress has been recognized by a national organization.
On Sunday, Jim Pullan Jr., owner of Jamestown Mattress, was honored with the inaugural Small Business of the Tournament award following the annual LECOM Health Challenge golf tournament at Peek’n Peak Resort.
The award was presented by the tournament’s umbrella sponsor Web.com, which recognizes local businesses that are deeply ingrained within their community at each local installation of the Web.com tournament. Jamestown Mattress was selected to receive the award by committee from a pool of nominee businesses submitted by the directors of the tournament within Chautauqua County.
Pullan said Jamestown Mattress was grateful for the opportunity to be recognized, and thankful to the community that has kept Jamestown Mattress thriving for more than 30 years.
“This is a great honor and our family is humbled by this recognition,” Pullan said. “This community supports our business each and every day, so it’s nice to be able to also give back and support a great tournament like this. And receiving this award is just icing on the cake.”

Today, the company is run by Pullan Jr., who joined the family business in 2002 to help diversify its consumer base and products. Beginning with just four employees, Jamestown Mattress now employs 40 people in nine factory-direct showrooms across Western New York and Northwestern Pennsylvania.
“We’ve been very blessed and our business is as busy as it’s ever been. Our stores have been performing tremendously, and we couldn’t be happier as a company,” Pullan said.
In 2015, the company landed a multi-million dollar, five-year contract with the Dormitory Authority of the State of New York. Beating out various strong competitors, including one which held the contract for nearly 25 years, Jamestown Mattress became the sole mattress manufacturer that services all 64 New York state universities.
Pullan said the company is looking to purchase a new piece of equipment in the fall that would allow for the compression and roll-packing of mattresses and the shipment of said mattresses directly to the customers’ doorsteps. Jamestown Mattress was the sponsor of the Sunday morning sunrise service and Cakes for Caddies breakfast service at the Health Challenge this year.
