SC wins on busy day for soccer

FREWSBURG — Three second-half goals gave the Silver Creek Black Knights boys soccer squad a 3-1 win over the Frewsburg Bears Monday in CCAA Central action Monday.

Reid Bjork opened the scoring with a goal 35 minutes into the game for Frewsburg (1-6, 1-3). Dylan Nordlund picked up an assist.

Just two minutes into the second half, Phillip Narraway tied the contest for the Black Knights (2-4-1, 1-2-1) off an assist by Darren Jiminez. The scoring line was reversed on Silver Creek’s go-ahead goal seven minutes later, with Narraway assisting a Jiminez tally. Bryce Shomper made it 3-1 with about seven minutes to go, as Narraway recorded his second assist of the match.

“My team had a consistent effort. They were down a goal at the half, and played with a lot of heart and came back,” Silver Creek coach Mark Bratcher said. “They never stopped playing until the last minute.”

Jeremy Wilcox made 13 saves in goal for Silver Creek, while Frewsburg’s Caleb Carr made 10 saves.

Both teams have CCAA Central games Wednesday. Frewsburg plays at Chautauqua Lake, while Silver Creek is set to host Pine Valley.

PINE VALLEY 2, WESTFIELD 1

SOUTH DAYTON — Dakota Loop’s goal with two minutes left in the second overtime gave the Pine Valley Panthers a 2-1 win over the Westfield Wolverines Monday in a boys soccer thriller between two teams atop the CCAA Central.

“We had one good chance in (the second overtime) and we put it in,” said Pine Valley coach Dave Pihlblad of Loop’s goal, scored off an assist by Ryan Snyder. “It was an exciting way to win.”

Westfield (4-5, 3-1) went on the board first with a Nathan Culbreth score 15 minutes into the game. Jason Almeter picked up the assist.

The Panthers (3-2, 3-1) tied the game in the 65th minute when a Zach Mansfield shot deflected off a Wolverine defender and went into the net.

Makiah Snyder made five saves in goal for Pine Valley. Mike Johnson, Westfield’s goalkeeper, had three saves.

Both teams return to CCAA Central action Wednesday. The Wolverines will host North Collins, while Pine Valley travels to Silver Creek.

FREDONIA 2, OLEAN 0

Jason Genovese scored two goals in the second half to lift the Fredonia Hillbillies (2-4, 1-3) past the Olean Huskies, 2-0, in CCAA West play on Monday.

Following a scoreless first half, Genovese scored in the 52nd minute off a pass from Max Kinkela. Genovese’s second goal came with just a little over three minutes remaining in regulation on a through pass from Michael Persch.

“The players worked hard in practice the last couple of days and it showed today against a good Olean side,” Fredonia coach Jim Rush said. “We won numerous 50-50 balls and we were solid in our own end. A credit to the entire team for its work leading up to this game.”

Carter D’Agostino had eight saves in net for his first career varsity shutout for the Hillbillies, who travel to Sinclairville on Wednesday to play Cassadaga Valley/Falconer in another CCAA West matchup.

Olean drops to 3-5-1 overall and 2-2-0 in the division.

MAPLE GROVE 2, DUNKIRK 1

LAKEWOOD — The Maple Grove Red Dragons edged the Dunkirk Marauders, 2-1, Monday in a CCAA West game.

Simon Olson had the first goal of the match for Maple Grove (6-1, 3-1) about seven minutes after the opening whistle. Ben Cresanti assisted on the play.

Dunkirk (2-6, 1-3) got a game-tying goal from Josue Alfaro just before the end of the first half. But Reid Wight scored the winner for the Red Dragons about halfway through the second half off a Nick Brown assist.

Dunkirk goalie Felix Garcia had a busy day, making 25 saves. Sam Cummings made four saves in goal for Maple Grove.

The Marauders host Southwestern Wednesday as CCAA West divisional play continues.
