CV grabs volleyball win at Gowanda

GOWANDA — The Cassadaga Valley girls volleyball team traveled up to Gowanda Tuesday and took the win, 25-18, 25-15, 25-20, to improve its record to 4-1 overall and 3-0 league; Gowanda’s record drops to 1-3, 1-2.

Cassadaga’s 3-0 sweep came with help from Jenna Caskey’s nine kills, 11 digs and five aces with Maranda Perez adding nine kills, five digs and two aces. Savanna Nickerson clocked 21 assists in the win.

For Gowanda, Dayna Degenfelder had one kill with 11 digs and a block, while Summer Allen had six digs, one block and 10 assists.

“We started out real well and once they made a mistake, it piled on,” Gowanda coach Ray Logan said. “In the last game, we picked it up, but obviously not enough. There was more urgency in the end.”

Cassadaga Valley hosts a tournament this weekend, then welcomes Southwestern on Monday. Gowanda returns to the court Thursday for a match in Forestville.

FORESTVILLE — The Forestville Lady Hornets defended home court with a win over the North Collins Lady Eagles, 25-18, 23-25, 25-17, 25-14. The win brings the Lady Hornets’ record to 3-0 in CCAA Class D high school girls volleyball play.

Brooke Ostrye led the Lady Hornets with 11 kills, nine blocks and three digs, while Rhianna Nasal added two kills, three digs and 27 assists.

“Their middles played very well,” North Collins coach Dave Burgstahler said. “They blocked and hit well.”

Forestville will look to continue its hot start against Gowanda at home on Thursday, while North Collins will travel to play Fredonia on Thursday. The Lady Eagles and Lady Hillbillies are scheduled to play at the middle school.

There were no statistics available for North Collins.
