CV sweeps Southwestern in volleyball

SINCLAIRVILLE — The Cassadaga Valley Lady Cougars swept Southwestern, 25-14, 25-10, 25-19, in a non-league girls volleyball matchup Monday.

Jenna Caskey turned in seven kills, two digs and an ace for Cassadaga Valley (6-1, 4-0). Teammate Miranda Perez added four kills, a block and an ace, while Savannah Nickerson contributed 11 assists, two kills and two access to the Lady Cougars’ winning effort.

The Lady Trojans (3-5, 1-2) were led by Angela Lunz’s nine assists, six aces, five digs and two blocks. Aubin Cotter helped Southwestern with seven digs, three kills and two blocks.

“Our first match against Southwestern went five games — to come and take three straight (in the rematch) is nice to do,” Cassadaga Valley coach Denny Wakelee said. “It’s kind of nice to see how much we improved from only a couple weeks ago. I’ve go a lot of seniors who are two- and three-year starters who are stepping up.”

The Lady Cougars host Forestville today in an important CCAA North contest.

“Forestville has only one loss in league (play), it’ll be a big match,” Wakelee said. “I think we’re ready.”

Southwestern hosts Chautauqua Lake in a CCAA Central divisional matchup on Wednesday.

MAYVILLE — Olivia Pembridge had 25 assists, 10 digs, three kills and three aces as Maple Grove remained undefeated by beating Chautauqua Lake, 25-20, 25-11, 25-12, in CCAA South action.

Maddy Russo contributed 16 kills, two aces and four digs while Maddie Welch had 10 kills; Emma Wirsen had 12 digs; and Alyssa Steen had 11 assists and two aces for the Red Dragons (7-0, 3-0).

For Chautauqua Lake (2-2, 2-2), Olivia Anderson had six kills and eight digs; Abbie Henry had three kills, three assists and three blocks; and Camryn Hawkins had two kills and 17 digs.

Chautauqua Lake took all three games in junior varsity action.
