Special to the OBSERVER
OSWEGO — Fredonia improved to 2-1 in the SUNYAC and 6-1 overall with a 5-4 women’s tennis conference win Saturday over the Oswego Lakers.
Three Blue Devils earned singles and doubles wins. The duo of junior Olivia Miller and sophomore Anna Chiacchia combined for an 8-5 win at No. 1 doubles. Chiacchia also won No. 1 singles, her 16th career win, while Miller earned her school-record 22nd win in singles with a victory at the No. 2 slot. She also improved to 7-0 this season as did freshman Sarah Bunk who was victorious at No. 3 singles after teaming with junior Adriana Speach to win the No. 2 doubles match.
“A determined group gutted it out,” Fredonia coach Greg Catalano said. “The match had drama and great intelligent play by the Blue Devils.”
The Blue Devils are right back in action today when they take on Elmira at 1 p.m. in a non-conference match at the Steele Hall Courts.
