BEMUS POINT — The Fredonia girls tennis team defeated Maple Grove, 3-2, on Tuesday.

In first singles, Bernadette Gens defeated Maple Grove’s Maddie Collins, 6-1, 6-2.

Maple Grove took the second singles behind Elise Swanson’s win over Kelsey Vianeses, 6-4, 6-3.

For first doubles, the Selin Arnavut- Jillian Valvo combo defeated Maple Grove’s Tabby Boughton and Emma Collins, 4-6, 6-2, 7-6.

And in second doubles, Maple Grove took the win with Ryann Hayes and Kaylee McCall, who defeated Nicole Cosico and Katie Panasci, 6-3, 7-5.

“Today’s match was an incredibly toughly fought game by both teams. The match of the day was third singles, which was the match decider,” Fredonia coach Lisa Johnston said. “The match was at 2-2 and Alicia came back after a first-set loss (2-6) to win, 7-6, 6-1, in the second and third sets. She played smart, patient tennis and moved the ball from corner to corner until she got the opportunity to attack and win the rally. Her win was well deserved. First doubles was also a great match and our team played really well to come back from one set down.”

Fredonia plays Fairview from Erie at 3:15 today. Fredonia is 2-0 in league and Maple Grove is 1-1.
