AMHERST — CrossFit Dunkirk was well represented Saturday at the Queen City Throwdown.

Testing their level of fitness against other CrossFit gyms around Western New York, Omayra Mendoza and Allison Bevenue of CrossFit Dunkirk, competed in workouts such as weightlifting total, cardio, kettlebells and rope climbs.

Mendoza, who had never competed before, came in first place in the rowing event and finished eighth overall.

Bevenue has competed a few times on a team, but never as an individual. She finished each event in the top 5 with one ninth-place finish. Bevenue qualified for the final workout, where she dominated the event to take a first-place podium finish.

“I couldn’t be prouder with how they performed,” CrossFit Dunkirk Coach Cody Felt said. “We make it an issue to be mentally prepared going into competition. As long as we make sure to cover our bases, we can execute with confidence. A month ago, Omayra didn’t have rope climbs and on Saturday, she was able to get three. Allison has always been a great athlete. We hammered here weaknesses to make them her strengths, and now she’s flourishing. I’m very proud of those two.”

CrossFit Dunkirk will again be competing this November in Buffalo to raise money for prostate cancer research and to raise awareness at the 5th Annual Movember Throwdown.
