FHS tennis perfect in division play

MAYVILLE — A perfect CCAA West Division season is in the books for Fredonia’s girls tennis team after a 5-0 victory at Chautauqua Lake Monday.

Bernadette Gens of the Lady Hillbillies beat Autumn Shuskie in the first singles match, 6-0, 7-5. The second singles contest went to Kelsey Vianese, who defeated the Lady Thunderbirds’ Corinne Elliot, 6-1, 6-1. Alicia Kluck rounded out a singles sweep for Fredonia by topping Emily Bauer, 6-0, 6-3, in third singles.

In the doubles matches, it was Jillian Valvo and Selin Arnavut of Fredonia besting Logan Walczak and Elizabeth Marshaus, 6-0, 6-1, in first doubles; and the Lady Hillbillies’ Nicole Cosico and Katie Panasci topping Chautauqua Lake’s Marta Alnoso and Abby Paulus, 6-2, 6-0.

Fredonia ends the regular season with an 8-0 CCAA West record. Its overall record is 10-1, with the only loss coming to Erie, Pa.-based Fairview. The next matches will be at the County Championships Oct. 11-13 at the Lakewood YMCA.
