Pine Valley tops NC in soccer, 2-1

SOUTH DAYTON — The Pine Valley Panthers (7-4, 6-2) won a key CCAA Central boys soccer game with the North Collins Eagles (6-6-1, 5-3) on Monday.

After a scoreless first half, the visitors got on the board 7:10 into the second half when Tyler Jimerson scored an unassisted goal. But Zack Mansfield tied the game for Pine Valley just over a minute later, with Richard Johnston picking up the assist.

Dana Jenkins provided the game-winning goal in the 59th minute. Dawson Chase recorded an assist on the play.

“They went up, and my team responded really well,” Panthers coach Dave Pihlblad said. “We got a goal a minute 30 (seconds) after them, then kept up the pressure and got another one soon after that. It was a good win for my team, finding a way to win in the second half.”

Each goalie made three saves: Anthony Novoa for the Eagles, Makiah Snyder for Pine Valley.

Pine Valley’s next game is at Westfield on Wednesday. North Collins travels to Chautauqua Lake that day.

SILVER CREEK — The Silver Creek-Forestville Black Knights and Chautauqua Lake Thunderbirds couldn’t score a goal in 100 minutes — 80 minutes of regulation and two overtimes — of CCAA Central boys soccer action Tuesday.

Jeremey Wilcox made 13 saves in goal for Silver Creek (3-7-2, 2-4-2). The goaltender for Chautauqua Lake (2-7-3, 2-4-2), Danny Prewitt, had six saves.

“My team did a good job turning it on the second half and overtime, we just couldn’t find the back of the net,” Silver Creek coach Dan Foy said. “I’m proud of the effort, we held strong the entire game.”

The Black Knights are back in action Wednesday, when they host Frewsburg.
