Silver Creek girls X-country places second, boys fourth

FREWSBURG — Silver Creek’s girls cross country team placed second, while the boys placed fourth in Tuesday’s meet against Frewsburg, Maple Grove and Southwestern.

Maple Grove won on the girls’ side with a score of 17, while Silver Creek had 50, Southwestern had 73 and Frewsburg’s score was incomplete.

Jaylah Cossin led the Lady Black Knights as she placed fifth with a time of 21:14. Ellie Decker was in 10th, 22:01. Daisy League was in 13th, 23:26. Lily League was in 14th, 23:45. Julia Kennedy was in 16th, 24:15. Emma Romanik, 26:44, and MiKayla Clark, 27:00, finished in 24th and 25th, respectively.

Cossin’s fifth place finish was not with 100 percent health.

“She is coming back from a minor injury and cruised into fifth place today,” Silver Creek Mike Janisch said. “She did not push her run at all. It was a very efficent run.”

For the boys, Maple Grove led the way with 24 points, while Southwestern was in second, 48, Frewsburg in third, 66, and Silver Creek in fourth with 94 points.

Silver Creek was led by Riley Wilson, 19:36, in 12th place and Jon McDaneld, 19:59, in 14th. Gabe Rhodes was in 25th, 21:49; Alex Bogosian placed 28th, 22:05; Sean Marchant finished 30th, 22:12; Ryan Rocque, 23:49, placed 35th and Brentan Pacifici, 24:32, placed 36th and Josh Bunnell, 24:44, finished 37th.

McDaneld and Marchant had season bests on Tuesday.

“Jon Mcdaneld ran the best race of his season and Sean Marchant had his best race of season,” Janisch said. “At this point in the season, we look for everybody to make progess, but when you make large jumps like they did today, that is outstanding.”

Silver Creek will compete at the Alden Invitation in Alden on Saturday. The expected start time is 10 a.m.
