Devils fall to Skidmore, 3-2

SARATOGA SPRINGS — Fredonia was unable to complete its comeback Saturday, falling 3-2 to Skidmore in men’s hockey during the opening game of the Skidmore Thanksgiving Invitational at the Saratoga Springs City Rink

The Blue Devils (3-4-1) rallied from a 2-0 deficit with a pair of goals in the third period. Kyle Jelinski (Edmonton, Alberta) cut the deficit at 7:20 of the third period with his first goal of the season. Just 56 seconds later, Tyler Riter evened the score, 2-2, with an unassisted goal at the 8:14 mark. It was his second goal of the year.

Skidmore’s Tim Allen scored the game-winner at 11:46 of the third period.

Matt Bernot gave Skidmore a 1-0 lead at 4:34 of the first period. Matt Muzyka made it 2-0 early in the first period with a power-play goal. Muzyka also assist on Allen’s game-winner. The Thoroughbreds improved to 1-6-1.

Eric Bogart made 32 saves in the Fredonia net. Bobby Polachek and Sean Leonard earned assists on Jelinski’s goal.

The Blue Devils will play in Sunday’s 1 p.m. consolation game against the loser of Saturday’s other game between SUNY Canton and No. 8 ranked Hamilton.
