Fredonia State women fall to Medaille, 79-72

BUFFALO — Senior Emily Lasher poured a career-high 22 points, grabbed 10 boards and had four steals, but it was not enough as the Fredonia women’s basketball team fell at Medaille, 79-72, on Sunday. Three other Devils reached double digits in scoring — Alisha Szumigala (Forestville) had 16, Jacque Law had 15, and freshman Sydney Turley had 14.

Fredonia was leading 70-68 with 2:26 remaining in the game when Medaille closed on an 11-2 run.

Anna Chiacchia had 5 assists and Turley and Law each had 7 rebounds for the Devils.

Medaille’s big advantage came from three-point range, where they converted 11 of 35 shots, compared to 2 of 11 for Fredonia. They also had a 49-42 edge in rebounds.

The Devils shot 43 percent from the floor compared to 36 percent for the Mavs.

Dani Reinwald led Medaille with 20 points and 18 rebounds while recording her 1,000th career point. Morgan Kennedy added a double-double with 11 points and 13 rebounds.

Medaille improves to 2-3. Fredonia falls to 1-3.

Fredonia is back in action tonight with the team’s home opener, against Hilbert College. Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m.
