Dunkirk battles, but falls to Health Sciences, 65-57

OBSERVER Staff Reports

LANCASTER — The Dunkirk Marauders varsity boys basketball squad went down to defeat Friday in the championship game of the Lancaster Tournament, losing 65-57 to Health Sciences.

The Marauders were down 38-20 at the half, but mounted a comeback, according to Dunkirk coach Andrew Krenzer.

“In the first half we played very, very timid offensively,” he said. “The kids came storming back and really made a game of it — we were down six with two minutes to go. Darnell Butts got hot and pushed our team forward a bit. (Devaun) Farnham was steady throughout the game.

“I was really proud of the way these guys came back in the second half. They showed me we’ll be a heck of a team,” Krenzer concluded.

Tyrese Kristian-Johnson and Farnham both made the All-Tournament team for Dunkirk. Tournament MVP was Health Sciences’ Devante Gaines, who will be playing Division I basketball next season at Tennessee.

Farnham and Gaines each had 19 on Friday to lead all scorers. Butts scored 14. Kristian-Johnson had 10 rebounds.
