Gowanda impressive in win over Hornell
OBSERVER Staff Report
OLEAN — The Gowanda Panthers had a strong showing on Day 1 at basketball tournament held at Olean High School. Gowanda got off to a hot start against Hornell en route to a 62-43 victory in the non-league contest.
“We came right out of the gate and outscored them 26-11 in the first quarter,” Gowanda coach Andy Bobseine said. “Our offense was clicking on all cylinders. We were hitting our perimeter shots. We were getting into the paint, which allowed for some good kickouts to the 3-point line, and we were able to get inside position, and get some buckets down low as well. We had a good high-low game tonight.”
Nate Brawdy led the way on the court for Gowanda, tallying 20 points and 15 rebounds.
“He stood out on the court tonight — for both teams,” said Bobseine. “He controlled the game on offense, and was able to get offensive and defensive rebounds. Overall, solid performance for him tonight.”
Ture Hassler also had 14 points for Gowanda, while Tristan Jensen contributed to Gowanda’s hot start, draining his first three perimeter jumpers of the game.
Gowanda moves on to the championship round to play the hosting Olean Huskies, tomorrow at 3:30 p.m.
