Marauders strong in first indoor meet this season

The Dunkirk/Silver Creek indoor track team was off to a good start Saturday morning at their first meet held at The State University New York at Fredonia.

There were quite a few highlights for both the boys and the girls. Issiah Velez had the highlight of the field events taking second place in the long jump with a leap of 18-feet-1 inch.

On the track there were a few first to be found.

Dunkirk took hold first in the 1000 meter run for both the girls and boys with Jericha Petrella for the girls in a time of 3:32.0, and Nelson Rosario for the boys in 2:58.8. Then, Dunkirk swept the 600 as well, with Emilee Hanlon taking first for the girls in 1:49.07, and Nate Ganey taking it for the boys in 1:37.31. Miracle Berakah also took third for the boys in 1:40.73.

Anthony Ruiz took home another first place for the boys winning the 1600 in 4:46. Hanlon took second in the 300 with a time of 43.13 qualifying her for Sectionals in the first meet. Jonah Rosas also qualified for sectionals in the 300 with a time of 38.00. The boys 4×4 relay team of Devin Eddy, Jonah Rosas, Miracle Berakah, and Velez took home the win in a time of 4:06.3.

The girls 4×2 of Kylie Procknal, Juliana Flick, Petrella, and Hanlon took 2nd with a time of 1:59.9.

“It was a solid first meet,” said Dunkirk coach Adam Woelfle. “We go into the first couple meets just trying to get a baseline and put the kids through a good workout. The excelled at working themselves in each and every race and bringing home some quality results as well. I’m excited for what the season has in store.”

Next weekend Dunkirk will travel to Houghton for the Early Christmas Classic.
