Panama escapes Pine Valley with 63-57 win

OBSERVER Staff Report

PINE VALLEY — The Panama Panthers picked up their first win on the season, defeating Pine Valley on their own floor 63-57 in non-league boys’ basketball.

Both teams were competitive throughout all four quarters, but it was Panama that was able to overcome a one-point fourth-quarter deficit to take the win.

“We were up one leading into the fourth and then (Panama) switch to a 1-2-2 press. … We got good looks to the basket off of that, but we just didn’t finish,” Pine Valley coach Chris Buczek said. “In transition to them going to offense, we didn’t make the stops we needed to make. We missed layups and shots that we should’ve made, and Panama came down on the other side of the court and took advantage of those opportunities.”

For Panama (1-1), Cameron Barmore finished the game with 16 points, 14 rebounds and four steals, and Thomas Delahoy chipped in 13 points as well as seven rebounds.

Stephen Crisanti led the way for Pine Valley (0-1) with a team-high 15 points, as well as having six steals and rebounds apiece. Robbie Clutter added in a solid defensive effort, and chalked up seven points and eight rebounds in the loss.

Pine Valley’s next game will be played Monday at home against Cassadaga Valley.
