Pine Valley boys top Cassadaga Valley
SOUTH DAYTON — The Pine Valley Panthers got by the Cassadaga Valley Cougars, 51-42, in a non-league boys’ high school basketball game Monday night.
The host team (1-1) rolled to a 28-15 halftime lead but the Cougars (1-1) made them sweat with a 17-8 third quarter. The Panthers outscored the visitors 15-10 in the final period to clinch the win.
“We did get out to a big lead. I think we came out of halftime resting on that lead,” Pine Valley coach Chris Buczek said. “Cassadaga Valley came out to play in the second half. They came out and attacked us. We had a few clutch shots and defensive possessions that led the team to the victory.”
Stephen Crisanti led all scorers with 18 points for the Panthers, while his teammate Zachary Mansfield netted 12. Connor Crabtree topped Cassadaga Valley with 11 points, while fellow Cougars Levi Moore and Mark Swanson each scored 10 points.
Crabtree led the Cougars in rebounding with 15, while Crisanti was the biggest Pine Valley rebounder with 11. Crisanti amd Mansfield each had five steals, as well.
Pine Valley returns to action Dec. 12 at Panama. Cassadaga Valley is back on the court much more quickly — tonight at Allegany-Limestone.
