The Chautauqua Sports Hall of Fame will be the home for a pair of plaques that recognize excellence among members of the New York State Association of Certified Football Officials Southwestern Chapter. The presentation was made Thursday afternoon by members of the NYSACFO. Joining in the presentation, from far left, are Bill Beckerink, Len Comella, Dave Kolstee, Mike Anderson, Randy Shenefiel, CSHOF president Randy Anderson and Al Feser. Comella, a 30-year official and NYSACFO Southwestern chapter past president, is the 2017 recipient of the Roger Mason Award, which is given to a high school football official who has depicted the qualities of Roger Mason, who was an official from 1949 to 1992. The recipient is “recognized for giving the selfless gift of longevity to the chapter by offering countless hours of leadership and guidance with the utmost display of professionalism.” Previous winners are Patrick Carroll, 2004; Shenefiel, 2006; Ken Blodgett, 2007; Feser, 2012; Beckerink, 2014; and Kolstee, 2016. The second plaque that will hang in the CSHOF is in recognition of local officials who have worked New York State championship games. Those who have had that honor include: Jack Fulford and Shenefiel, 1994; Larry Rodgers and Blodgett, 1996; Feser and Tom Franco, 1998; Blodgett and Rich Rybicki, 2000; Shenefiel and Beckerink, 2002; Feser and Kolstee, 2004; Russ Bonfiglio and Comella, 2008; John Ensell and Beckerink, 2010; Jim Barber and Mike Saar, 2011; Mark Hannon and Dana Scott, 2012; Scott Fish and Bill Brown, 2014; and Ray Spacht and Keith Fish, 2016.
