WESTFIELD-BROCTON 57, FORESTVILLE 16

WESTFIELD — The Westfield-Brocton Lady Wolverines topped the Forestville Lady Cougars, 57-16, Monday night in a non-league girls high school basketball contest.

Sophia DeMarco helped make sure the Lady Wolverines didn’t miss point guard and top scorer Katie Bodenmiller much. DeMarco stepped up with 28 points, 18 rebounds, three blocks and three assists to ease the absence of Bodenmiller, out with a long-term foot injury.

“She’s really a team leader who just plays hard all the time,” Westfield-Brocton coach Dave Mathews said of DeMarco. “We’re counting on her to step up with Katie out.”

Nelvelyn Rivera contributed seven points, five rebounds and five steals for the Lady Wolverines (3-2). Cheyanna Rivera pulled down 10 rebounds for the team.

“We got kids that can step up,” Mathews said. “We need to just take care of the ball more. … We’re passing up a lot of good shots.”

Eight different players scored for Westfield-Brocton, which led, 34-2, at halftime. “A game like this is nice because you can get everyone in the game so they can get some playing time,” Mathews said.

Phoebe Kingsfield had eight points for Forestville (0-5). Claire Kingsfield grabbed 10 rebounds for the Lady Hornets, while Sylvea Cleary made five steals.

Westfield-Brocton is back on the court Thursday at Pine Valley in a game rescheduled from Dec. 12 due to heavy snow. Forestville doesn’t return to action until Jan. 5, when it plays at Ellicottville.
