Lady Hornets fall to Salamanca, 29-26

The Forestville Lady Hornets girls basketball team fell to Salamanca in a non-league matchup on Tuesday by a score of 29-26 in Forestville.

The low-scoring game was close throughout, as Forestville closed the gap from the 18-point margin of defeat it suffered in the first matchup of the two, last month at Salamanca.

The difference in Tuesday’s game was the size advantage for Salamanca, according to Forestville coach Lisa Szumigala. Sophomore forward Kylee Dowdy had 14 points and 15 rebounds for the Lady Warriors.

Three of Forestville’s key players — Sylvea Cleary, Phoebe Kingsfield and Clare Kingsfield — were in foul trouble, which led Salamanca to focus on getting the ball down low to Dowdy.

“We did a good job on her early, but once those three got in foul trouble… she really hurt us,” said Szumigala.

The Kingsfield twins led Forestville in scoring, as Clare tallied 11 points, while Phoebe had nine points and six rebounds. Each of the twins had five steals.

Forestville (0-5) looks for its first win of the season on Friday at Ellicottville, while Salamanca (2-5) takes on Cassadaga Valley tonight.
