Blue Devil divers, swimmers compete at SUNYAC tourney
BUFFALO — Alyson Baumann finished sixth in the women’s 500-yard freestyle, moving up one spot from her preliminary swim, at the 2018 SUNYAC Women’s Swimming & Diving championship meet Thursday.
Baumann, a sophomore, for the final with a preliminary time of 5:18.25. She lowered her time to 5:16.58 during the evening session at the Flickinger Center. Fellow sophomore Sam Angrignon was 16th.
Fredonia finished seventh in the 200-yard freestyle relay with the quartet of senior Taylor Chwalinski, sophomore Lydia Gaughran, freshman Erin Kalsman and Baumann. Thje Blue Devils were also eighth in the 400-yard medley relay.
Women’s 1-meter springboard diving was held Thursday. Tops among the three Fredonia entries was freshman Ashleigh Reinhardt, who scored 351.95 points during preliminaries. She finished 10th in the event and Gaughran was 13th.
Graham Jones finished second in the men’s 500-yard freestyle relay during the Thursday night session of the SUNYAC men’s championships.
Jones, a senior, was clocked 4:43.49 during the morning preliminaries, nearly 14 seconds faster than his season-best. He was clocked in 4:44.03 during finals. By finishing second, he earned SUNYAC All-Conference Second Team honors.
In other Thursday events:
— Drew Page, a freshman, was 16th in the 200-yard individual medley. His qualifying time was 2:02.11, over five seconds faster than his previous best.
— Bill Bradley (Dunkirk) was 11th in the 50 freestyle in 21.91 seconds. He was also 11th after preliminaries in 21.92.
— Bradley was also part of the fifth-place 200-yard freestyle relay. He swam the second leg behind sophomore Cameron Cross and ahead of sophomore Pat Woods and freshman Aaron Gonzalez. They combined for a time of 1:26.73. The quartet of Woods, Criss, Bradley, and Jones finished sixth in the 400 medley relay with a time of 3:36.25.
The meet runs for two more days, with swimming preliminaries at 10 a.m., diving preliminaries at noon, and finals at 5:30 p.m. today and Saturday.
