DHS bowling teams compete at invitational tourney
CHEEKTOWAGA — The boys and girls bowling teams from Dunkirk competed in the 1st Annual Section VI Invitational Bowling Tournament. The tournament was held at Airport Lanes in Cheektowaga, which is where the Sectional bowling tournament will be held on Feb. 14 (boys) and Feb. 15 (girls). The oil pattern that was used will be the oil pattern used at sectionals.
In girls action there was 20 teams. Dunkirk (4,595 total pins for 6 games) finished 11th overall. Cheektowaga (5,126) finished first in the tournament.
For the Lady Marauders, Rachel Glowniak led the team with a 552 (166-164-222) in the morning and 483 in the afternoon for a total of 1,035 which placed her 10th out of 116 bowlers. The highlight for the Dunkirk girls was Rachel Glowniak receiving an award for finishing the day with the third high single game of 222. Makayla Pasierb finished 37th overall with a total pin count of 949 (445 morning, 504 afternoon). Olivia Corbett had a team high series and 10th overall for the afternoon session of 530 (192-166-172), showing how tough the shot was.
On the boys side, Dunkirk (4,458) finished 19th out of 22 teams. Orchard Park (5,796) finished first.
Dunkirk’s top bowler was seventh grader Brady Corbett. He finished 48th overall out of 135 bowlers with a total pinfall of 940. In the afternoon he had the team high series of 521 (185-180-156). Tristan Skelly finished 51st overall (913) followed by Trevor Skelly in 56th (883). Jaxson Pencek had a 493 (180-145-168) series in the afternoon.
Both teams will be in action this week at the CCAA Roll-off tournament. The boys bowl on Tuesday and girls on Wednesday.
