Fredonia’s Brown, Lanski and Rey qualify for states
CANEADEA — Three Fredonia Hillbillies qualified for states on Friday’s meet at Houghton College.
Lydia Lanski, Emily Brown and Diego Rey all made states with top three finishes in their respective events. Lanski finished third in the 100 hurdles with a school record time of 8.73. Brown took second in the 1500-meter run, with a time of 5:03.45. Rey placed third in the 1000 with a time of 2:39.43.
In a meet that was “full of mixed emotions, it is difficult for us to see the final meet for many of our seniors who were top performers and team leaders. according to Fredonia coach Tom Stokes, other notable performances that did not earn state qualifying honors include Claire Stokes, who finished fifth in the high jump with a jump of 4’8” and Caleb Crampton, who broke his own school record in the 300 with a time of 40.02.
Jack Carlson also finished 11th in the 3200 run with a personal best time of 10:29.17, while the boys 4×800 relay team of Kevin Redfield, Jack Carlson, Josh Johnson, and Rey placed 10th in a season’s best time of 8:57.79.
According to Fredonia coach Tom Stokes, the meet was “full of mixed emotions. It is difficult for us to see the final meet for many of our seniors who were top performers and team leaders. At the same time, to see several of our athletes qualify for the state meet is very exciting for those athletes and for Coach Brifu and myself.”
