Huskies handle Billies in 63-36 victory

OBSERVER Staff Report

OLEAN — The Fredonia Hillbillies (5-14, 3-9) closed the regular season with a 63-36 loss to the Olean Huskies in CCAA Division 1 West boys basketball Tuesday night.

“Tonight we started off okay. … Olean just plays such great defense to catch up. They had a big third quarter where they scored 20 points and we just couldn’t recover from that,” Fredonia coach Greg Lauer said.

Mike Schmidt led the Huskies’ offense with 23 points.

For Fredonia, Keith Piper led the team with 11 points, Tyler Putney with eight, Brendan Plaister with six. Nico Pucci tossed around four assists and Nate Shuart led the Billies in rebounds with five.

“”We’re basically 0-0,” Lauer said on his team entering the postseason. “Last year we made a pretty decent run and this year we’re trying to do the same. If we can play some better defense I think we can make some noise here in the postseason.”

The playoff seeding meeting will be held on Saturday.
