Sherman locks up title with win over Cougars

SHERMAN — Senior Jared Gleason matched a season high with 23 points as Sherman locked up the CCAA West 2 title outright with a 67-47 win over Cassadaga Valley on Friday.

Gleason added nine rebounds, five assists, five steals and three blocked shots as the Wildcats captured their first league crown since 2014-15.

“This is a great bonus that these guys are able to win the league title and be undefeated thus far,” Sherman coach Cory Emory said. “That’s a testament to them coming together as a team to improve throughout the season.”

Fellow senior Tanner Ramsey chipped in 15 points, five steals and five assists for Sherman (13-5, 10-0), which has won eight straight games.

Michael Beatman had 9 points, including a 3-pointer, while Gleason added seven points, including a 3-pointer, during the first quarter as the Wildcats jumped out to a 30-11 lead.

Connor Crabtree led the Cougars (6-10, 2-7) with 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists while David Peterson added seven rebounds.
