Softball: Lady Thunderbirds leave town with win

SILVER CREEK — The Silver Creek Black Knights high school softball team (3-4, 2-3) lost to Chautauqua Lake, 12-7, Tuesday in a CCAA West 1 league game.

The Knights’ Tessa Douglas went 2 for 4 pounding out a double, three RBIs and a single. Stevie Cook, Bailey Watroba, Jade Bouvier, Julia Hill and Madison Mott each had a hit for Silver Creek. Hill took the loss in the circle, pitching six innings, striking out six and walking only one.

Chautauqua Lake (3-1, 3-1) was led by Katelyn Fardink who went 3 for 4 with a double. Cianna Braymiller went 2 for 4, hitting a home run and a double, and driving in three runs. Kendra Keyser also hit a home run in the game for the Lady Thunderbirds..

Olivia Anderson was the winning pitcher, allowing five hits, striking out 11 and walking five batters.

MONDAY

Silver Creek bested Falconer in a back-and-forth nine-inning game.

In the top of the ninth inning, the Knights’ Bailey Watroba was walked, Jade Bouvier laid down a sacrifice bunt moving Watroba over to second, the next batter struck out, Kiera Brennan drew a walk, then with two outs, pitcher Julia Hill helped herself smashing a home run past the center fielder, putting the Knights up by three.

Falconer wasn’t going out without a fight, scoring a run in the bottom of the ninth, but Hill finished out the game striking out the last batter.

Falconer’s big hitter was Macy Youngberg with two triples and a single. Alex Rivera also went 3 for 5 for the Golden Falcons, with a double and two singles. Olivia Adam added a single and double.

Ashley Pierce pitched nine innings for the Falcons, striking out six, walking seven, and allowing 15 hits.

For Silver Creek, Libby Lawton went 3 for 5 with two RBIs; Hill was 2 for 4 with the game winning home run and a double and four RBIs; and Tessa Douglas was 3 for 6 with three RBIs.

Hill pitched all nine innings, allowing 15 hits, striking out eight and walking none.

“Today was an exciting yet sloppy back and forth game, and very stressful to coach,” Silver Creek coach Stacie Bauer said. “We need to play cleaner and when we get a lead, work on keeping it. Very proud that the girls kept calm in the ninth inning and held the lead and played every out.”
