COLLINS — Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Sherman fired a 180 to win the inaugural Chautauqua-Cattaraugus Athletic Association boys golf team championship Wednesday at Gowanda Country Club.

Kole Maytum led the winners with a 3-over 39 and tied Southwestern’s Max Vaughn for medalist honors.

Junior Derrick Martin added a career-low 42 while Darien Swanson shot 48, Justin Wiemer shot 51 and Chance Meeder shot 51 for Chautauqua Lake/Westfield/Sherman, the CCAA West 2 champion.

Vaughn’s 39 led Southwestern to a 190. Other scores for the Trojans were Drake Bell’s 48, Evan Christensen’s 49, Jake Hnatyszyn’s 54 and Brady Fye’s 56. Southwestern was the CCAA Division 1 champion.

Sean Campbell’s 47 led Allegany-Limestone, the CCAA Division 2 East champion, to a 201. Michael Davis added a 49 Cole Lechner shot 52, Jake Lippert shot 53 and Ronnie Jakubczyk shot 55.

Each team’s highest score was dropped leaving their four lowest scores to add up to their combined team score.

CL/Westfield/Sherman will now compete against Erie County Interscholastic Conference champion Orchard Park, Niagara Frontier League champion Niagara Wheatfield and Niagara Orleans champion Medina for the inaugural Section VI team championship Monday at River Oaks Golf Club in Grand Island.

That championship will run simultaneously with the individual state qualifier. Any individual golfer also representing a team qualifier will have his 18-hole score county for both competitions.

“We’re thrilled to represent the CCAA. It was a very competitive match today,” CL/Westfield/Sherman coach Steve Johnston said, also giving credit to assistant coach Kathy Deering.

“Southwestern and Allegany-Limestone are very good teams. … I think we are hitting our stride at the right time,” Johnston added. “We have very competitive practices with a lot of similar scores on our team. We have had a lot of improvement on the year.”
