FHS teams defeat Dunkirk in track

The Fredonia boys and girls track teams both defeated Dunkirk on Tuesday at Fredonia High School. The Fredonia boys came away with a 77-64 win, while the Fredonia girls ran away with a 40-point win, 86-46.

In the boys meet, Dunkirk won the sprints, but Fredonia dominated the long distance and field events, highlighted by three distance runners: Diego Rey, Joshua Johnson and Jack Carlson, along with double-winner Rian Budzinski. Rey came away with a win in the 1600 with a time of 4:49.6. Johnson won the 3200 with a time of 10:47.3, while Carlson won the 800 in 2:09.9. Budzinski was a double-winner in the 110 hurdles and the 400 hurdles for Fredonia. Hessen Bahgat won the pole vault with a personal best of 12 feet, while Jake Guerra won the shot put.

Dunkirk’s standout on the day was Isiah Velez, with wins in the 100 and the long jump. Devaun Farnham-Dejesus won the high jump for Dunkirk.

In the girls’ portion of the meet, Fredonia came away with a lopsided win highlighted by double-winners Emily Brown, Lauren Kluck and Anna Buchanan. Brown won the 3000 in 12:57.6, along with winning the 1500 in 5:06. Kluck won the shot put and discus, while Buchanan won the 800 and the triple jump. Fredonia also had individual wins on the day by Lydia Lanski, Fotini Landis and Adrianna Pucci.

Dunkirk’s individual winners were Jericha Petrella, Julia Fred and Emilee Hanlon, who was a double-winner with victories in the 200 and the high jump.
