Great Kills, of Staten Island, won the 8-10 Little League softball state championship on Sunday at Joe Karnes Field in Dunkirk. After a 3-2 win over Westfield in 10 innings on Saturday, Great Kills needed to win twice on Sunday to eliminate North Shore, who had not lost in the tournament before Sunday.

In the first game of the state final, Great Kills came away with another thrilling win, 7-6, as the tying run was thrown out at the plate to seal the victory and force a winner-take-all game for the championship immediately after. Great Kills finished off North Shore — also from Long Island, from the town of Rocky Point — with a final score of 10-5 in the championship final.
