Marsh, Ringler score back-to-back aces

Submitted Photo Sue Marsh (left) and Jenny Ringler pose at Shorewood Country Club’s No. 4 hole on Sunday, after they both achieved holes-in-one there — on consecutive shots. The chances of that happening are 17 million to 1.

A hole-in-one in golf is rare enough. Two in a row is something truly special.

Jenny Ringler and Sue Marsh achieved the feat Sunday at Shorewood Country Club at hole No. 4. Ringler used an eight iron while Marsh used a five iron to ace the 134-yard hole.

“What makes this remarkable is these two ladies were playing in the same group and teed off back to back on the hole,” said Rich Conwell, the head golf pro at Shorewood. Conwell said he’s never been at a course where back-to-back aces were made in his more than 20 years as a club pro.

Conwell said that “according to the National Hole In One Registry, the odds of this feat happening are 17 million to 1. … It’s like sending off people for every 10 minutes for 7,000 days before that happens again.”

According to the golf pro, the reaction — or lack of it — from the women surprised him.

“They never really jumped up and down on the golf course,” Conwell said. “I would’ve been going crazy. They just kept going.”

All they did was text him that it happened and took a photo to commemorate the occasion, the photo you see with this article.

Conwell said that Ringler and Marsh “are tremendous players,” noting that Ringler was on the Niagara University golf team.

In fact, they wound up finishing 1-2 in the women’s division of the Shorewood club championships over the weekend (see For the Record).
