Silver Creek defeats Brocton/Westfield in just three sets

SILVER CREEK — The Silver Creek Black Knights took care of Brocton/Westfield in three sets, 25-5, 25-11, 25-7, in the first league match of the season for each team in the 2018 high school volleyball season.
Silver Creek (1-0, 1-0) was led by Julia Hill — one of the team’s many returners in 2018 — with eight aces and seven assists. Libby Lawton added five aces and four kills.
Brocton/Westfield (0-3, 0-1) was led by Cheyanna Rivera’s three kills and two blocks.
Silver Creek’s next match is on Thursday, as the Black Knights travel to North Collins.
Gowanda 3, Fredonia 0
GOWANDA — The Gowanda Lady Panthers came away with a three set win over Fredonia in high school volleyball league play on Tuesday, 25-16, 25-12, 25-8.
Gowanda (2-0, 1-0) was led by Grace Pawlak with 16 aces, while Marleah Stevens had eight kills. Fredonia (0-1, 0-1) was led by Anna Valone’s four kills and three aces.
Gowanda travels to Brocton next, on Thursday, for a matchup with the Brocton/Westfield Lady Bulldogs.
Clymer 3, Pine Valley 0
CLYMER — Pine Valley fell to Clymer three sets to none in Tuesday’s Section VI high school volleyball game. Clymer narrowly edged out the Lady Panthers in the first two sets 25-21, 25-20, then convincingly won the final set 25-12.
Emily Pfleuger of Pine Valley had herself a day with two aces and 15 assists.
Clymer’s Hannah King contributed on both offense and defense with three kills, three blocks and two aces helping the Lady Pirates improve to (2-0) on the year.
