WESTFIELD — Westfield/Brocton hosted Silver Creek/Forestville on their senior night in Section VI boys soccer action on Thursday. The Wolverines seniors being honored were Noah Knappenberger, Matthew See and Luke Stephenson. In what was already a special night, the Wolverines made it even better by getting a big 5-1 win over the Black Knights.

“It was our homecoming game for soccer, it was nice to see the student body and parents come out to celebrate our last regular season game,” said Westfield/Brocton coach Jay Pikiewicz.

Westfield/Brocton generated quite a bit of offense early on, eventually leading to their first goal scored by Jason Almeter from Gabe Morello in the 18th minute. The Wolverines did not hold back after scoring early, instead Almeter found the back of the net five minutes later with an assist from Darien Swanson. Headed into halftime Westfield/Brocton held a 2-0 lead over the Black Knights.

Almeter did not wait long to complete his hat trick in the second half, just two minutes in he netted a pass from Josh Heim. Silver Creek facing a 3-0 deficit did not give up responding ten minutes later with a goal from Angel Gaitan assisted by Giovanni Pacifici. Unfortunately for Silver Creek, the Wolverines offense did not stop as Gabe Morello found the back of the net two times giving them an insurmountable 5-1 lead. Senior Luke Stephenson registered the assist on the first of Morello’s goals. Mike Johnson put forth four saves in the winning effort.

“Our health is better, we has a couple kids with long term injuries get healthy, giving us more depth. We had a lot of more movement up front and we capitalized on that,” said coach Pikiewicz.

Westfield/Brocton will be hosting a home playoff game in Westfield next Thursday, as they finished 8-2 in the league.
