The Section VI Class C North announced their all-star teams from the 2018 football season this month and with it, the list included an abundance of players from both Gowanda/Pine Valley and Silver Creek/Forestville.
Gowanda/Pine Valley’s running back Ryan Gernatt was named to the offensive first team after an outstanding season. Gernatt rushed for 586 yards on 117 carries this season. Gernatt’s yardage was good for third place in the division, just behind Javon Thomas and Aaron Wahler of Cleveland Hill. Gernatt also contributed six touchdowns to the Panthers this season.
“[Gernatt] made academic team too, he is very smart. He was a great leader, a two year captain for us,” said Gowanda/Pine Valley head coach Sean Gabel. “He was a leader in the classroom and outside the classroom.”
The Black Knights had two players named to the first team offense, including offensive lineman Luke Szumigala and wide receiver Macadam Gadewoltz. Gadewoltz had 13 receptions for 220 yards and five touchdowns.
Gowanda/Pine Valley was all over the defensive first team with three players receiving the honor. “Heart of the defense, can’t say enough about them,” said Coach Gabel. “They worked in the weight room all offseason — their success will keep growing in their future. Our seniors will be greatly missed with our program. I can’t say enough about those four first team kids, they’re great kids, proud they played for me and played for us.”
Silver Creek/Forestville’s linebacker Angel Caraballo also was named to the defensive first team.
For Gowanda/Pine Valley, quarterback Justin Kohn, offensive lineman Brady Andrews, and tight end Zach Smith were named to the second team offense. Linebacker Caleb Maloney represented the Panthers on the second team defense.
The Black Knights had three players receive second team defensive honors, Brady Woleben at defensive line, and both Sam Braidich and Dominic Jamison at defensive back.
The whole Gowanda/Pine Valley team earned the Sportsmanship award.
“Our coaches and staff are preaching to be humble, it’s more important than wins and losses represent our program on and off the field,” said Coach Gabel. “It’s a great honor to have your peers vote your team. Our kids are on their way to become great young men. I’m proud of our boys for that.”
