Blue Devils top Pitt-Bradford

Down one point at the break, the Fredonia men’s basketball team dominated play early and often in the second half in a 79-53 victory over Pitt-Bradford on Tuesday. De’Quan Smith scored a game-high 17, and Mark Morgan was a rebound shy of a double-double, with 12 points and nine boards. Bediako Nyasa added 16 points.

The Devils outscored Bradford 46-19 in the second half. They opened the half on an 8-0 run before Bradford found the net, then rattled off five more points to complete a 13-2 run. Fredonia held Bradford to just six points over the first 13 minutes of the half and led 58-40 after Smith connected on three pointers on back-to-back possessions with 7:38 left to play.

The first half showed the promise of a competitive game. Nyasa did his best to keep the Devils close, scoring 12 of his points in the first.

Morgan got things started in the second half scoring three of the team’s first five baskets as the Devils would quickly build an insurmountable lead. Fredonia shot 52 percent from the floor in the half.

For the game, the Devils shot 14 of 15 from the line and 11 of 27 from three-point land. Smith was five of eight from long range. Bradford connected on just four three-point baskets.

Isaiah Ice turned in seven assists to go along with seven points.

Bradford (3-11) was paced by Desmond Brogsdale with 11 points — 10 coming in the first half.

The Devils (2-11) return to Dods Hall this weekend to take on New Paltz on Friday and Oneonta on Saturday as parts of women’s/men’s doubleheaders.
