Silver Creek edges past Gowanda, 50-48

SILVER CREEK — Abby Rice scored 18 points and led the Silver Creek girls basketball team past Gowanda in CCAA Div. 1 East league action on Thursday, 50-48.

Silver Creek (8-1, 3-0) led the entire game and saw its lead grow to as much as seven points at halftime, but Gowanda used its size and good rebounding ability to keep the game close into the fourth quarter.

“Gowanda challenged us in the fourth quarter,” said Silver Creek head coach Tammy Rice. “Gowanda has such good size and it really caused problems late in the game.”

Emma Rice, Jaylah Cossin and Jade Bouvier each added seven points for the Black Knights.

For Gowanda, Miya Scanlan led the way with 15 points while Scotia Snyder added 14 points and Paige Gabel had 11 points.

Gowanda (4-5, 1-2) had a chance to with at the buzzer with a late 3-pointer, but it didn’t fall.

Silver Creek will be back in action at home against Portville on Tuesday while Gowanda takes their home court Monday against Randolph.

Lake Shore 68, Depew 21

DEPEW — The Lake Shore Lady Eagles jumped ahead early against the Depew Lady Wildcats on Thursday en route to a 68-21 win in ECIC Div. 3 action.

Lake Shore was led by Shawni Cornfield with 15 points, nine rebounds and five steals. Sophie Snyder (14 points, seven steals) and Lani Cornfield (10 points, seven steals) also played well for the Lady Eagles.

“We were mixing it up from the start,” said Lake Shore head coach Danielle Arnone. “Everyone got a lot of playing time and we came out with a good team win.”

Lake Shore (7-1, 4-0) will be back in action on Tuesday when they host Maryvale.

Ellicottville 44, Pine Valley 39

SOUTH DAYTON — The Pine Valley girls basketball team lost a close game on Thursday, falling to Ellicottville in CCAA Div. 2 East action, 44-39.

Ellicottville was led by Linnea Jimerson’s double-double with 17 points and 13 rebounds while Makenna Smith added 12 points of her own.

For Pine Valley, Katelyn Miller put up 17 points and five rebounds while keeping the Panthers in the game.

Pine Valley (2-7, 0-3) will be back on the court Saturday afternoon against Clymer at Steele Hall at Fredonia State.

Falconer 44, Westfield/Brocton 38

FALCONER — Falconer improved to 4-7 overall and 2-4 in Division 2 West play with a 44-38 win over Westfield/Brocton at home.

Sarah Disbro led the winners with 16 points, five rebounds and six steals, while Gracie Lundmark added 11 points and seven rebounds.

Sophia DeMarco hit three 3s in defeat, finishing with a team-high 18 points to go along with 10 rebounds and four assists.

Juli Smith added nine points and nine rebounds for Westfield/Brocton.

Westfield/Brocton is in action next on Monday, against Sherman in Brocton.
