Lake Shore girls win 12th straight

CHEEKTOWAGA — The Lake Shore girls basketball team rattled off their 12th straight victory over Cheektowaga on Tuesday, winning by a final score of 65-22 in ECIC Div. 3 league action.

Shawni Cornfield score 15 points, grabbed eight rebounds and dished out seven assists to help the Lady Eagles secure the victory.

“It was a really good team win for us,” said Lake Shore head coach Danielle Arnone. “The girls played really well together tonight.”

Sophie Snyder finished the game with 13 points and five rebounds while Lani Cornfield scored 10 points of her own.

Lake Shore (14-1, 10-0) has two league games left and will play one of them at home on their senior night Thursday against Depew.

Pine Valley 36, Forestville 32

SOUTH DAYTON —Payton Swanson scored all nine of Pine Valley’s fourth-quarter points in a 36-32 Division 2 East win over Forestville.

The teams were tied at 27 heading into the final eight minutes before the Panthers (4-11, 1-6) outscored the Hornets (3-11, 2-5), 9-5.

Swanson finished with 15 points to lead Pine Valley while Lyric Westlund added 11 rebounds, seven steals and four blocked shots. Delanie Tunstall had 10 rebounds and three blocked shots while Sadie Fadale added seven rebounds and six assists.

Sylvea Cleary led Forestville with 14 points to go along with five steals. Phoebe Kingsfield grabbed 15 rebounds and Clare Kingsfield had five steals.

Portville 62, Silver Creek 37

PORTVILLE — Bryn Milne had 16 points and 15 rebounds to lead Portville to a 62-37 Division 1 East win over Silver Creek.

The Panthers (13-1, 7-0), who led 35-14 at halftime, clinched at least a share of the league title with the victory.

Shayla Wilhelm added 12 points; Mallory Welty had 12 points and eight rebounds; Sierra Keim had 10 points; and Karly Welty chipped in 10 points, eight rebounds six assists and three steals in the win.

Abby Rice led the Black Knights (11-4, 5-3) with 12 points, six rebounds and four assists while Emma Rice had 8 points and three steals. Jaeleigh Cruz chipped in 12 points.

Chautauqua Lake 53, Fredonia 37

MAYVILLE — Chautauqua Lake broke open a tight game with a 19-6 third-quarter run that propelled it to a 53-37 Division 1 West victory over Fredonia.

Katelyn Fardink led the way with 20 points and five steals; and Alexis Jacobson added nine assists and six steals, helping the Lady Thunderbirds improve to 10-7 overall and 3-5 in the division.

Abigail Henry added 10 points and six steals; Emily Phelps also had 10 points; and Lily Woodis had 10 points and grabbed eight rebounds for Chautauqua Lake, which committed just 11 turnovers.

Grace Mroczka paced Fredonia (6-9, 1-8) with 16 points.

Fredonia (6-9, 1-8) will be back in action Friday when they travel down to Southwestern.
