Devils nail New Paltz

LAKELAND, FLA — The Fredonia State baseball team improved to 4-0 in the conference with a convincing 19-1 win over New Paltz on Friday. Starting pitcher Luke Kuczewski ran his record to 3-0, scattering four hits in a nine-inning complete game. He was aided by an 18-hit attack that included seven extra-base hits.
Kuczeski’s only blemish came following a hit by pitch and a double in the top of the fourth inning. He gave up hits in the seventh and eight that were both erased by double plays. He surrendered the final hit in the ninth inning. Kuczewski struck out 10 and walked none.
Offensively, Kevin Yirinec hit a three-run blast, his fourth of the year, and Kole Brink connected for a two-run shot. Yirinec finished the day with six RBI and three hits, while Brink had three hits to his credit.
Billy Clifford added four hits, and Jon Morrison, Dom Monti, and Russ Mistretta added two each. Mistretta ripped a double and a triple while driving in three.
The Devils improve to 7-5 overall. New Paltz falls to 3-1 and 0-1 in the SUNYAC. They wrap up their southern swing with a double header versus New Paltz beginning at 10 a.m. today.
