SOUTH DAYTON — For a small school south of Buffalo, Pine Valley is generating some talent.

Pine Valley’s Malori Waag signed her letter of intent to play volleyball and softball at Division III Finger Lakes Community College earlier last month and now, she’s excited to take the next step.

“I thought it was the right fit for me when I visited and saw how much passion the coach (Jerry Hoover) had for the game,” said Waag. “I saw a couple of practices and I had that feeling right when I got there.”

Waag, who has been an ace on the Pine Valley pitching staff for much of her career, added that one thing that drew her to Finger Lakes Community College was them allowing her play two sports.

“The athletic programs work together in allowing me to participate in both sports — they actually encouraged it,” said Waag. “That opportunity drew me to it even more by seeing the coaches work together to allow me to play both sports.”

Waag also has spent time playing for the Hamburg Xtreme during the travel seasons.

Waag has also seen time on the Pine Valley volleyball team, primarily playing the libero position.

At Finger Lakes CC, the volleyball team wrapped up their fall season with a 26-12 record this season, exciting Waag even more about joining the program. Even with Waag wrapping up her career at Pine Valley this spring, she won’t forget the memories she made there.

“I loved growing and making memories here at Pine Valley,” said Waag. “Learning the sports and falling in love with them has made my time here special.”

Waag also credits her father, Matt, for being a primary supporter of hers and helping her reach this level.

“My dad and the rest of my family have supported me the whole time,” said Waag. “My dad has been my coach since day one and he’s helped me so much along the way.”
