Westfield/Brocton Lady Wolverines senior star forward Sophia DeMarco visited an open gym practice at Westfield Academy earlier this week to speak to the young Lady Wolverines hoping to join the varsity program next year. DeMarco, who led the Lady Wolverines in every statistical category for the second year in a row, finished her fourth full season on the varsity team as a senior this year. She scored her 1,000th point of her career in Westfield on Jan. 29 against Cassadaga Valley.
DeMarco brought her 1,000 point commemorative ball and her captain’s jersey to the open gym practice earlier this week, while spending the evening speaking with the girls in attendance, alongside her head coach throughout her career, Dave Mathews. Coach Mathews called her “a great leader and example to others how you should conduct yourself,” while noting that “she had a lot to do with us receiving the team sportsmanship award.”
DeMarco will take the court one final time in her high school career at the Senior All-Star Game at Fredonia State’s Dods Hall on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
