Blue Devils lose doubleheader to SUNY Brockport

Brockport took a pair of games from the Fredonia State baseball team on Saturday. The Eagles won Game 1 by a score of 4-2, and took the nightcap 10-3.

The Devils took a 2-0 lead in the third inning of Game 1. Billy Clifford plated Trevor Bradshaw on an RBI ground out, and Russ Mistretta followed with a run-scoring base hit.

Brockport would get all its runs in the fifth inning. Tom Kretzler cracked a two-run blast to center field. After a hit-by-pitch and a strike out, the Eagles plated a pair more on bloop singles to take the lead for good.

Sam Cestra took the loss, going four-plus innings and giving up three runs. Nick Ciroalo gave up one run in three innings of work. Ciraolo and Cestra combined to strike out nine batters. Trevor McCarthy earned the win on the mound, scattering six hits and striking out two while walking none.

Up 2-1 in the fourth inning of Game 2, Brockport put up three runs in the fifth and sixth innings to cruise to the 10-3 victory.

Kole Brink went 3-for-3 for the Devils, and Billy Sanborn tossed an inning of scoreless relief and had a two-run double. Tyler Murphy also tossed a 1-2-3 inning of relief.

Nick Ciraolo took the loss after starting Game 2. He tossed four innings, striking out two and walking none, giving up two runs.

Brandon Greenspan earned the win going 5 1/3 innings, giving up one unearned run, walking three and striking out six.

Brockport improves to 6-9 in the conference, while the Devils fall to 7-5 in SUNYAC play.

The four Fredonia seniors were honored prior to the game. It was the last weekend home game for the quartet — Luke Kuczewski, Jon Morrison, DJ Schiersing and Kevin Yirinec.
