Emma Rice heading to Elmira College for soccer
Silver Creek star signs
Special to The OBSERVER
SILVER CREEK — Silver Creek’s Emma Rice will continue her soccer career next fall at Elmira College, where she will major in biology with a pre-dental concentration. Her future plan is to attend dental school with a concentration in orthodontics.
Emma Rice was a five-year starter for the Black Knights of Silver Creek. She graduates holding the school records in three statistical categories: most goals, most assists and most overall points. Emma Rice was a CCAA Second Team All-Star selection as an eighth-grader and then a CCAA First Team All-Star selection for all four seasons in high school. She also served as a team captain for the past three seasons playing for her father, Kevin Rice.
The academic reputation, outstanding science facilities and college traditions initially attracted Emma Rice to Elmira. However, Coach Kaitlyn Mallernee’s continued interest plus an overnight visit allowed Emma Rice to spend some time with the team ultimately “tipped the scale.” A number of other schools were recruiting Emma Rice, but after all the other visits and meeting with coaches, Elmira never left the No. 1 spot.
“Elmira is just the perfect fit for me. Coach Mallernee made me feel part of the program from the beginning, and after spending some time with the team on a visit this past fall, I knew this is where I wanted to play,” said Emma Rice. “Academically, Elmira has everything I was looking for in a school.”
Emma Rice is determined to continue to work hard and grow her game so she can help Coach Mallernee and the Soaring Eagles in any way she can.
