Ripley, Westfield land water grants

Rep. Tom Reed has announced two major grants for water infrastructure systems Chautauqua County — one for Ripley and the other for Westfield.

“We care about helping our local communities improve their water systems because it bolsters the regional economy, lightens the burden for local taxpayers and protects our environment,” said Reed. “These grants will have a major positive impact in not only the communities, but the entire Great Lakes watershed. It’s only right that we remain committed to these types of critical investments going forward.”

Reed announced the town of Ripley will receive a $28,500 for improvements to their water system. “The Town of Ripley is pleased to receive this predevelopment planning grant from Rural Development.  As with many small communities, the Town of Ripley is struggling with an aging infrastructure and tight budget.  This grant will help prioritize future investments so the Town can continue to meet existing water needs and plan for future growth.  We appreciate the support of Congressman Reed and our federal officials who help to make these grants possible,” said Ripley Town Supervisor Douglas Bowen.

In addition, Reed announced Westfield will receive a $618,000 grant to install a new waterline in the Shorehaven District along Lake Erie. “The Town of Westfield is excited and appreciative to receive the money to complete this project.  The project would not be possible without this aid, and it is necessary for our residents to have a reliable source of drinking water.  We thank Congressman Reed for his support for all of our projects, including this one, to better the Town of Westfield,” said Town of Westfield Supervisor, Martha Bills.
