Fredonia boil-water order expected to be lifted today

The water main break at Chautauqua Road in Fredonia is still in repair as residents for most of the town of Pomfret and all of the village of Fredonia are in a boil water advisory.

Fredonia Mayor Athanasia Landis updated area residents on the main break on Facebook.

“The boil water advisory is still in place and will last at least until tomorrow,” Landis’ post read. “We need 2 sets of tests to come back negative. We sent one last night after all the breaks were fixed and the system flashed, another one will be sent today. Our water system is working fine since 3:30 yesterday (Saturday) afternoon by the way, we just need to make sure the water is safe.”

Pomfret residents that live west of the railroad tracks/Interstate 90 are supplied water by Dunkirk Water Filtration Plant, thus do not have to boil water for use, Pomfret Town Supervisor Don Steger said. However, it is advised to confirm how your water is supplied.
