Gowanda student stabbed overnight

GOWANDA — A Gowanda student is recovering after being stabbed Wednesday evening.

Gowanda School Interim Superintendent Robert Anderson posted the following on Facebook around 9 a.m. today:

“Last night in the village, two high school students were involved in a physical altercation where one student was stabbed multiple times. The injured student is in stable condition in the hospital while the other student is in police custody.

“After the incident, via social media, it was reported that a third High School student made threats against the school. These allegations were investigated by the NYS Police and found to be false. However, all such threats and rumors of threats are taken seriously and investigated by the district with direct involvement with our SRO (School Resource Officer) and law enforcement.

“There is no threat to the district nor staff/students from last night’s incident. This afternoon you will observe GPD/State Police at our entrances. This is precautionary and mostly designed to alleviate fear.”
